July Hair Growth Challenge!
Hair grows (naturally) on average around 0.3 - 0.5 inches each month and is the second fastest growing tissue on the body. The goal is to double this and grow an inch with the use of our oils and a set regimen with different products that enhances hair growth.
1. The first this we'll be going is a trim or chop to get rid of the dead, damaged and brittle ends!
2. We will be using a deep conditioner twice this month - you can use any deep conditioner of your choice especially if it is a protein treatment which increases the moisture in hair.
3. On proactive choice we'll be making this month is to moisturize daily so that our hair is not unnecessarily breaking off or not getting the moisture it needs and type 4 hair needs a lot of moisture. This can be done with the use of leave in conditioners or sprays, moisturizing lotions and other products the clearly state that it adds moisture to your hair!
4. To follow through with all the steps mentioned above, we will also implement the nightly use of a silk bonnet or silk pillow case in order to prevent or reduce shedding of hair. Since silk does not cause friction when rubbing against other things such as your hair. This will prevent unnecessary pulling and tugging of your hair while you sleep.
5. On wash days, an important part of the routine is detangling. Type 4 hair tends to get tangled and matted due to the tight curl patterns and this makes detangling even harder, with this being said I recommend practicing detangling in sections as well as combing from ends to root as this makes the process easier and reduces shed and breaking of the hair shaft.
6. The final part of the challenge that we will be implementing is what I like to call PPD! This is protective styles, patience and Diet. In order for your hair to grow and for you to maintain this length, you have to reduce how much you manipulate it so protective styles are made to last from 2 - 6 weeks and it ensures that your hair is not being over handled. While in protective styles - this is where. you practice being patient by keeping the style in for the desired time and being patient with the growth rate of your hair. Most people think that your hair only grows based on what you feed it, however your hair grows based on how you feed and treat your body! So you have to make healthy decisions to eat clean, increase water intake and increase your vitamin and mineral intake as well this includes vitamins such as biotin, B12 ETC.
I'm looking forward to the results of this challenge and cant wait to see everyone else's results as well! below I have my length measurements that were taken at the start of July and a comparison will be done at the end of the challenge to see how much my hair has really grown with this regimen over the 4 weeks.
Front: 8.5 inches
Side (L): 3 inches
Side (R): 4 inches
Back (L): 3 inches
Back (R): 3.5 Inches
Middle: 10.5 inches
N.B: my hair is tapered and the sides are low and growing back so I really want to see how much the regimen will grow these areas especially!
Until next time! Stay Beautiful!
